C. da Silva Dalva Port
Small, but mighty! This is not one of the "Big Port Houses", but it's reputation for quality is undeniable. Orignially founded in 1863, under the name Corrêa Ribeiro e Filhos and bore the warrant of a longstanding supplier to the Portuguese Royal Family. One of the few port houses that produces its own "aguardiente" (spirit) to fortify their wines - and it's some of the best! Produced from traditional red grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca. Exudes notes of dried fruit, toasted nuts and spices. It's smooth and harmonious on the palate, with slight notes of spice on the nose. It's a very balanced wine, with soft fruit expressing itself together with a silky, enveloping texture and a long finish.
